Bid guide
How to bid on U Facilities contractor prequalification for University of Utah
What U Facilities is buying
The University of Utah’s U Facilities is seeking statements of qualifications from new contractors for an open-ended Stage I prequalification process. Categories include electrical, general campus, general hospital, hazmat/abatement/demolition, mechanical, paving, roofing, and site/civil work.
Prequalified contractors may be invited to bid on Stage II capital improvement projects at locations across Utah. The construction budgets are under $3.5 million, and projects may be state-funded or non-state-funded. Only contractors prequalified in the relevant category may bid on those projects.
Key dates and the submission deadline
The solicitation documents became available October 1, 2026. A mandatory online meeting is scheduled for October 21 at 10:00 a.m. Questions are due October 28.
Submit the SOQ packet through BidNet Direct by November 11, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. The notice says BidNet Direct will not record packets submitted after that time, so allow ample time to complete the online submission. Prequalified status begins January 1, 2027, and is valid for 18 months.
Who this opportunity suits
This process suits construction contractors whose work fits one or more of the listed categories and who want to compete for U Facilities capital projects under $3.5 million.
Submit a separate proposal for each category you want to apply for. Contractors already prequalified in a category do not need to submit another proposal for that category. Prequalified status authorizes bidding only in the category awarded.
How to access and respond
Open the solicitation on BidNet Direct. The title and dates are public; a free vendor account is required to view the full notice, documents, and addenda. Submit the SOQ packet through BidNet Direct as directed in the solicitation.
Attend the mandatory online meeting on October 21 and sign in through the online chat. Send solicitation questions by October 28 to [email protected]; the notice says no one else should be contacted about this solicitation.
Prepare a complete, timely qualification packet
Read the prequalification requirements and selection criteria in the solicitation documents, then organize your packet around the information they request. Check that your submission matches the category you are applying for, and prepare a separate packet for each category.
Review the listing and addenda before submitting, confirm that all required materials are included, and leave time to finish the BidNet Direct upload before the noon deadline. If prequalified, track your 18-month expiration date: renewal documents must be submitted before expiration, and U Facilities does not notify contractors when renewal is due.
